Rónta i mBéaloideas na hÉireann

Join the Folklore of Ireland Society at 7.00 p.m. on Monday, 12 February 2024, in the
Museum of Literature Ireland, for the launch of ‘Seal Stories’, a website created in
partnership with the Irish Seal Sanctuary, showcasing material from the National Folklore
Collection. The majority of this material was collected by the Irish Folklore Commission
between 1935-1970 and includes a wide range of topics, from descriptions of seals and
where they are found, to practical accounts of their use in the past, to popular belief and folk
legend. Many of these accounts are now available to read on the website in English and in
Irish. The event will be bilingual and will be followed by a reception.
The presentation will be given by Ailbe Van Der Heide, based on her recent research.
Déanfaidh An Cumann le Béaloideas Éireann suíomh nua ‘Seal Stories’ a sheoladh i
Músaem Litríochta na hÉireann ar 7.00p.m. Dé Luain an 12 Feabhra 2024. Cruthaíodh an
suíomh i gcomhpháirt le Tearmann Rónta na hÉireann, agus déanann sé ábhar ar rónta ó
Chnuasach Bhéaloideas Éireann a chur ar fáil don phobal i mBéarla agus i nGaeilge.
Bhailigh Coimisiún Béaloideasa Éireann formhór na gcuntas seo idir 1935-1970, agus tá
réimse leathan ábhair i gceist leis, mar shampla cuntais phraiticiúla ar úsáid an róin, cur síos
ar rónta, agus finscéalta agus creideamh na ndaoine ina leith. Ócáid dhátheangach a bheidh
